Bayern Munich legend Franck Ribery retires from international football

Former France and Bayern Munich attacking midfielder Franck Ribery on Friday, October 21, retired from international football at the age of 39.

The 39-year-old who has had a persistent knee injury that kept him out of action for Serie A club Salernitana also terminated his contract with the Italian club.

Announcing his retirement, Ribery wrote on Twitter “The ball stops. The feelings inside me do not. Thanks to everyone for this great adventure.”

The French footballer had a hugely successful career spanning 22 years and nine clubs, the last of which was Serie A side Salernitana.

His most productive spell came at Bayern Munich where he scored 86 goals in 273 games.

Ribery won the Champions League with the German side in 2013. He also earned nine Bundesliga titles during his time at the club.

The Bayern Munich legend also played for Galatasaray, Marseille, and Fiorentina and won 19 trophies in total, including the Club World Cup.

The veteran featured in France’s national team 81 times and finished with a runners-up medal at the 2006 World Cup.
